A mom, her two children and another man have been charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery in connection to the group beating of a man Thursday night in south suburban Richton Park.
Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil set bails at $500,000 for the mother, Keetha Moore-Bankhead, 48, and Luis Pacheco, 18.
Moore-Bankhead's 24-year-old son, Ozzie Moore, was denied bond, while her daughter, Maria Moore, 17, of Park Forest, was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bond during the same hearing Sunday in Cook County criminal court.
Ozzie Moore is hospitalized with chest pains, according to Chicago police.
The group allegedly swarmed a 30-year-old Richton Park man Thursday night whom Ozzie Moore claimed jumped him a few weeks ago, according to court documents.
In the end, the victim suffered 17 stab wounds, a broken arm and punctures to his kidney, bladder and leg.
Assistant State’s Attorney Anthony Gattuso said the victim was also stabbed in the back, and that he could face paralysis.
He was initially taken to St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Olympia Fields, according to court documents, and was later transferred to Christ Advocate Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
According to court records, Maria Moore was picked up by the three at Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields on Thursday, where she is a student.
The four were stopped at a 7-Eleven near the 22300 block of Ridgeway Avenue in Richton Park at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, when Ozzie Moore spotted the 30-year-old victim, according to court documents.
In her statement to police, Moore-Bankhead, of Richton Park, said her son told her: “There goes that guy, mom,” according to court documents.
“Go take care of him and finish this,” Moore-Bankhead said, according to Ozzie Moore’s police statement in the court records.
With Moore-Bankhead behind the wheel of her 2004 Chrysler Pacifica, the group passed the victim a few times before stopping in front of him on Ridgeway, according to court documents.
Ozzie Moore jumped out and asked the victim, “Do you remember me?” according to court documents.
The man ran, but Ozzie Moore caught him and the two started fighting, according to court documents.
At one point, the victim was on top of Ozzie Moore, and he pulled a knife out and started stabbing the victim, according to court documents.
Pacheco, of Chicago Heights, who is Ozzie Moore's friend, kicked the victim in the head, according to court documents.
At some point during the melee, Ozzie Moore inadvertently stabbed Pacheco in the inner right thigh as Pacheco was kicking the victim, according to court documents.
Moore-Bankhead walked up during the fight and tased the victim repeatedly as he was being stabbed by her son, according to Gattuso and court documents.
Maria Moore allegedly hit the victim and said, “Come at me, bro.”
One witness told police the four were “stomping” the victim.
“The two females involved had been the most vicious aggressors in the attack,” a witness told police, according to court documents.
After a man came out and told the four he was going to shoot them or call the police, the group fled and Moore-Bankhead drove to a body of water in Richton Park and threw her son’s knife and a knife Pacheco had into the water, according to court documents.
Then they went to a family’s house in Crete and ate dinner, according to court records.
Moore-Bankhead is Maria Moore’s biological mother, but Maria Moore does not live with her mother, Gattuso said in court.
After the alleged attack, Ozzie Moore scolded his sister in the truck, according to Maria Moore’s police statement.
“Ms. Moore stated Ozzie told her that she is the ‘weakest link’ in the bunch because she was crying and shaking,” according to the statement included in the court documents.
Moore-Bankhead, Ozzie Moore and Maria Moore were all arrested early Friday at Maria Moore’s Park Forest home, according to court documents.
Pacheco was arrested Friday at Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, where he is a student, according to court documents.
According to a police report included in the court documents, Richton Park police found Ozzie Moore on April 15 with his left eye cut and his face covered in blood, on the same block where he lives.
Ozzie Moore refused to press charges against whomever attacked him, according to the report.
“I don’t know who did it, I don’t know what happened and I don’t deal with police,” he said, according to the report. “So I’m not going to tell you anything.”
Then, according to the report, Ozzie Moore told police “he would handle it on his own.”
