Chief Keef Arrested AGAIN!

AGAIN KEEF??? REALLY?!!

Rapper Keith Cozart, better known as Chief Keef, pleaded guilty this morning to speeding 110 mph on the Edens Expressway last month. The 17-year-old has a learner's permit and was told by the judge not to drive.
"I think you think you're invincible, and you're certainly not," said Cook County Circuit Court Judge Earl Hoffenberg. "Violate (conditions of the plea agreement) and you'll find out you're not. … I sure hope I don't see you again, because if I do you better be ready to go to jail."
Under sentencing guidelines for the Class A misdemeanor, Cozart could have been sentenced to a year in prison and fined up to $2,500. But the judge fined him $531, put him on probation for 18 months, ordered him perform 60 hours community service, and undergo random drug testing. He must also complete eight hours of traffic school.
Dressed in a black T-shirt, plaid shorts, sneakers, and wearing a gold chain, Cozart made no comment in court.
"If I were you, I wouldn't take this deal if you can't follow these conditions," Hoffenberg said.
"I'm really not sympathetic to people who don't listen to me," the judge added.
Cozart was stopped on the speeding charge May 27, a week after he had been charged with disorderly conduct in Georgia, where police say hotel security smelled marijuana smoke coming from his room.
Cozart was behind the wheel of a 2011 BMW X6 M, heading north about 3:45 a.m. at Winnetka Road, when a Northfield officer clocked him at 110 mph in the 55 mph zone, officials said. The officer pulled over Cozart, who was riding with three other men. He was taken into custody, and one of the passengers was allowed to drive the BMW away, officials said. The police report listed Cozart's address as in the 600 block of Pfingsten Road in nearby Northbrook.
On May 20, Cozart was arrested at the Le Meridien Atlanta Perimeter hotel in Dunwoody, Ga., north of Atlanta. Hotel security alerted police shortly before 3 p.m. about illegal drug activity at the hotel. Security staff members told police they had noticed a smell of marijuana coming from the room. Officers arrived and spoke with Cozart, then arrested him for disorderly conduct for smoking marijuana, according to a police report.

7 Dead, 46 Shot Over The Weekend

As she headed out the door Sunday morning, Adrianne Wilberton put on a brave face. It was time to tell one of her sons the news, and she didn’t want him hearing it from anyone else.
But her composure unraveled as she walked toward the car, a barrage of neighbors hugging her on the way out of her apartment. By the time she reached the front lawn, the mother of six was in tears.
“Our son is dead! Oh Jesus!” the 57-year-old screamed, referring to her other son, Cortez, who was killed earlier that morning on Chicago’s West Side. “Oh my God! Oh my God! We were just talking.”
At least 33 people were shot — six of them fatally — Saturday afternoon through Father's Day Sunday, stretching from 94th Street and Loomis Avenue on the South Side up to about North Avenue and North Pulaski Road on the Northwest Side, according to authorities. The youngest person who was killed during one of the bloodiest weekends in Chicago this year was 16.
Shootings from Friday afternoon into Saturday left another 13 people shot, 1 fatally. The combined tally resulted in 46 people shot, and seven killed this weekend. Last year at about the same time, there were 53 people shot, nine fatally in one weekend.
The rash of violent crime came as Chicago has seen a large dip in overall homicide and shooting numbers so far this year.
When asked whether this weekend's shooting numbers cast doubt on the department's crime-fighting strategies, Chicago police spokesman Adam Collins insisted they are working, noting the city has so far in 2013 posted its lowest homicide totals in years.
Collins also reiterated a position that police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has expressed publicly throughout the year when discussing the department's crime-fighting efforts. “There's going to be good days, and there's going to be bad days, which is why we've been calling this progress, not victory,” said Collins, who pointed out drops in overall crime.
Across the city, reminders of the bloody weekend literally stained some of Chicago’s streets. In the city’s Little Village neighborhood, 15 lit memorial candles stood in blood where Ricardo Herrera, 21, was fatally wounded and two others shot on the 2500 block of South Ridgeway Avenue.
About five miles away, a long trail of blood remained splattered in a Northwest Side alley — and on the bumper of a nearby car — where 16-year-old Kevin Rivera tried to run from a gunman on a bicycle, authorities told the Tribune.
Rivera’s family was planning to move in two weeks from their sometimes violent section of the Hermosa neighborhood, and a social worker was enrolling the teenager in the city's summer jobs program.
But late Saturday night, someone shot Rivera in the 4100 block of West North Avenue, police said. He attempted to run but collapsed a few feet away. The boy, who lived a few blocks away from the scene, was pronounced dead about 1:35 a.m. Sunday at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, authorities said.
Grief-stricken and exhausted, Kevin Rivera's family said little about Rivera or his death. “I can't believe it,” said Rivera's mother, Maria Figueroa.
One of six siblings, Rivera could be polite and soft-spoken at home, even as he became increasingly embroiled in neighborhood gang conflicts and faced juvenile court charges. Last year, he was shot in the leg, and he was briefly detained in the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center and placed on juvenile court probation for carrying an unloaded gun in the neighborhood, according to interviews with relatives.
His younger sister Yajaira Rivera last year was profiled in a Tribune investigation about elementary students who missed months of school each year. Rivera also missed weeks of school each year at Nobel Elementary School, where he earned an A in 7th grade art class but failed basic courses and had run-ins with teachers and staff, school records and interviews show.
In a brief Tribune interview last year, Rivera said he had tried to register at Orr Academy High School, but left after a couple of days because he didn't feel safe there. “There is a lot of tension,” he said.
Social worker Emily Runyan, who lived in the neighborhood and befriended Rivera's family, was recently working to enroll Rivera in the city's One Summer Chicago teen jobs program.
“I don't want to memorialize him because he made some bad choices, but Kevin was a kind, quiet and sensitive kid,” Runyan said. “I truly believe he wanted more for his life, but was a victim of many things.”
One of the men killed — 24-year-old Antwon Johnson — was shot by police early Sunday in the Lawndale neighborhood after he raised a 9-millimeter handgun in their direction after bailing from a moving car and falling, police said.
His mother disputed that account. “It’s not true,” said Stacy Liberty. “How could someone have a gun and point it to you if they’re already on the ground?”
Liberty said the car had been lurching down the block because the people in the car were trying to identify an address. The presence of a police car behind them must have made Johnson nervous, his mother said.
Johnson had been convicted three times for drug related charges stemming back to 2006, according to court records. He suffered three gunshot wounds almost two years ago, she said.
But the father of two five-year-old sons was trying to get his life back on track, she said.
“He hasn’t been in trouble in a while,” said Liberty, who rushed to the scene and recalled seeing her son’s lifeless body in the alley. “He was trying to get his stuff together. Black men on the street today, it’s tough for them to get a job because the first thing (employers) look at is their record.”
Another victim included 40-year-old Todd Wood, who authorities said was killed after a gunman opened fire at a club in the city’s Grand Crossing neighborhood. Three others were wounded in that attack, police said.
Several hours after club shooting, Cortez Wilberton, 31, was added to the homicide list. Wilberton had seen plenty of his friends shot over the years, but hit a turning point a few years back when his best friend was killed, his sister said. A former gang member, Wilberton had a lengthy criminal record that included at least 30 arrests, according to court records.
“That’s when he said, ‘That’s enough of this here … I don’t want to be bothered by all this nonsense,’ “ said his sister, Tanya Wilberton, 37.
So he left the gang and started focusing all of his energy on his three children, one of whom was born earlier this month, she said. He liked to take his children — two girls and a boy — to the park and watch the older ones ride their bikes, his mother and sister said.
Sometime early last year, Wilberton was shot in the stomach during a robbery and had to leave his a job as a security guard at a local store, his sister said.
Still recovering from reconstructive surgery, he mostly stayed indoors at night, but was gunned down at 1:35 a.m. on the 200 block of South Keeler Avenue in the Austin neighborhood. A 31-year-old woman also suffered a graze wound to the face, police said.
Around the time Wilberton’s family gathered Sunday morning to mourn, Karen Sumner received a call at work telling her to hurry home because police officers wanted to talk about her 19-year-old son.
“I hope my son’s not dead,” Sumner remembers saying. “Please, I hope my son’s not dead.”
But when she arrived at the family’s West Chatham home, officers delivered the news she feared most.
Her son, Jamal Jones, was shot at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday while riding his bike home from a family member’s house through the 7400 block of South Parnell Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood, police and relatives said. He died about an hour later.
Jones was a friendly, motivated young man who steered away from trouble and was always eager to work, according to relatives. He’d sometimes peddle bottled water to passing cars on 79th Street when he couldn’t find construction work, his mother said.
Jones’ uncle, Travis Sumner, said his nephew was a reliable member of his roofing crew. Jones worked as the ground man, picking up trash and making sure supplies got up to the laborers on the roof.
“He worked hard,” the uncle said. “He stayed busy all the time.”
On Sunday afternoon, family members returned to the shooting scene. They found the bike Jones had been riding and needles left over from the paramedics.
As she recalled getting ready for her job at Jewel-Osco on Sunday morning, Karen Sumner said it was odd that her son wasn’t there to say goodbye when she left the house at 3:30 a.m. At that time, she still hadn’t heard the news.
“He would always greet me at the door and kiss me and say ‘I love you,’ “ Karen Sumner said on Sunday. “This morning, he didn’t greet me.”

Teen Shot after Attacking Police

Police in the Jefferson Park neighborhood shot a teenage boy Friday morning after he swung a board at one of them, according to authorities.
The boy, either 16 or 17 years old, was shot twice and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with wounds to his arm and leg, Fraternal Order of Police Spokesman Patrick Camden said.
It's not clear why he ran from two uniformed Jefferson Park district officers, who approached him and two others as they stood in an alley near the 4400 block of North Mulligan Avenue about 12:30 a.m.
Police stopped the boy and two others because they were hanging out in an alley and may have been breaking curfew, Camden said.
One of the officers gave chase on foot and the other in a car. During the chase, the boy ran down a gangway, tried to jump a fence and confronted the pursuing officer with a board from a fence, according to Camden and a statement from the Chicago Police Department.
Camden said the boy noted his skills as a lacrosse player and said he "knew how to swing." The officer ordered the boy to drop the board, but he refused and instead moved toward the officer, according to the police statement. The officer fired twice after the boy lunged at him, Camden said.
No officers were injured, according to police.
The board was collected as evidence, Camden said. Police in the neighborhood taped off at least four separate scenes -- one on Mulligan Avenue, another a block east on North Mobile Avenue, and two more in east-west alleys that run parallel to Montrose Avenue on both sides of Mulligan.
Neighbors stepped onto their porches long after the shooting happened as Camden spoke to reporters outside the scene.
The district where the shooting occurred is one of the city's largest, stretching from Belmont Avenue north to Howard Street, from Cicero Avenue west to and including O'Hare International Airport.
The district has had fewer shootings than 19 of the city's 21 other police districts and is one of four police districts with only one homicide all year.

9 Year Old Boy Shot

Police believe a 9-year-old boy was shot by a gunman who had been aiming at his mother's boyfriend as they drove on the South Side.

Tykeece Hilliard shouted from the backseat, "Mommy, I'm shot," and his mother drove him to Comer Children's Hospital, about a mile and a half away. He underwent surgery overnight for a gunshot wound to the chest and police said he was expected to survive.
“He’s breathing on his own. He’s talking. He’s doing well,” his mother, Tynisha Hilliard, 28, told reporters, including WGN-TV, outside Comer Children’s Hospital today.

At the time of the shooting, other children were in the car but they were not hit, police said. Hilliard she and her six children, and a man she describes as a friend, were all in the car.

The boy's mother told police she was driving near East 67th Street and South Evans Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when she heard as many as five gunshots.
Police said someone on the street had either spotted the boyfriend in the front seat or recognized the red Aveo and opened fire, hitting the boy. The boyfriend fled the car as the mother drove to the hospital, police said.

"It just hurts that my grandbaby is laying in the hospital," the boy's grandmother, Deborah Hilliard, told WGN-TV. "I'm just praying for the best, that my grandbaby pulls through this because it's killing me, it's hurting me."
After the shooting, Tynisha Hilliard drove as fast as she could to Comer Children’s Hospital.
“My reaction was to save my son. That’s all I can do, save my son,” Tynisha Hilliard said.
Tynisha Hilliard said that “I have never put any of children in harm’s way.”
When asked about the shooter, Hilliard said that “I want him in jail, because anyone that can open up, fire when there’s six children in the car, is a heartless, cruel person.”
Neighbors described the boy as respectful and playful.

"He's a normal kid. He's not a troublemaker," said Diane Henderson, 59, who lives in the same building as the family in the 6400 block of South Maryland Avenue. "I got no understanding out of it. A 9-year old. It's sad."

Dee Roseman, 33, said the boy and her 11-year-old son play video games, read comic books and build forts together. "He's a sweet little boy," she said, adding that he likes math and reading.

Roseman said her son was watching the news this morning when he heard of the shooting. "He was like, Momma, I just hope that he's OK because that's my friend," Roseman said. "I said, 'He's OK. The only thing we can do is we can pray for him.' That's all we been doing since last night."

Roseman said she might take her son to the hospital later today.

Roseman said the boy lives with his mother and five other siblings under the age of 13. They moved into the area about two years ago.

Roseman said that their mother was thinking about sending her kids to summer camp and Great America. "So they wouldn't be outside so this stuff wouldn't happen," she said. "It is kinda bad out here."

The boy was among 11 people shot within eight hours Wednesday, including a 15-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man who were killed.

• The 15-year-old, Miguel Villegas, and another boy, 16, were shot around 6:30 p.m. when a gunman walked up and opened fire in the 5100 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in the Gage Park neighborhood, according to Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

Villegas, of the 5100 block of South Mozart Street, died of a gunshot wound to the back and the other boy was in serious condition at Mount Sinai Hospital with a wound to his shoulder, authorities said. No one was in custody.

• Three people were shot about 7:25 p.m. in the 12300 block of South Emerald Avenue in the West Pullman neighborhood, Greer said. A 25-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man were each shot in the leg. Another man, 33, suffered a wound to his abdomen, Greer said.

• About 10 minutes later, a 48-year-old man was wounded in the 6100 block of South California Avenue. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

• About 10:15 p.m., a 30-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were shot in the 3300 block of West Maypole Avenue, Greer said. The 30-year-old was shot in the side and taken to Stroger Hospital, police said. The other man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a wound to his hip.

• A 19-year-old man was shot in the Englewood neighborhood about 10:45 p.m. while getting out of a car, police said. The car radio remained on long after he was taken to Stroger Hospital with a wound to his chest. He was in serious condition.

• Earlier Wednesday, a 20-year-old man was killed when someone in a gangway shot him while he stood on a porch on the Far South Side, according to authorities. The shooting happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. in the 400 block of West 115th Street, officials said.

Jessie D. Clark, of the 11600 block of South Harvard Avenue, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died. No one was in custody.

Lil Durk Held on $100K Bond 4 Weapons Charge

The defense attorney for a parolee associated with rapper Chief Keef filed statements today from several people claiming the man did not have a gun police say they found him with early Wednesday—including one from a convicted felon who claims it was his gun.
But Criminal Court Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil ordered Durk Banks, 20, aka Lil Durk, held in lieu of $100,000 bail in a hearing midday today.
According to court records, police responded to a call of a person with a gun about 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 7200 block of South Green Street. Officers arrived and saw Banks, of Melrose Park, toss a handgun through the open window of a parked Hyunda Sonata and walk away quickly. The gun – a blue steel Glock 9mm with 14 live rounds -- was found in the back seat.
A records search showed that it was reported stolen on April 10, according to the police report.
At the time of his arrest, Banks was weeks away from finishing parole in a 2011 aggravated unlawful use of a weapon case, in which he was caught in the 6400 block of South Eggleston Avenue on Oct. 9, 2011, with a gun that had had its serial numbers defaced.
Banks’ lawyer, Sam Adam Jr., filed a memorandum asking for a signature bond, stating that Banks is engaged, has one child and another that is due on Tuesday.  He said Banks has signed with a major record label but has yet to make a significant amount of money and therefore has little means to post bond.
Attached to the memorandum are handwritten statements from several alleged witnesses to the incident, all claiming that Banks did not own the gun.
One of the statements is from a 20-year-old man who claimed it was his gun, and that he told police he was the one who threw it in the car. The man, who is a convicted felon acquitted of attempted murder in March, claimed in his statement that “police did not want to listen to him."
Banks performs under the name Lil Durk. He is a friend and associate of South Side rapper Chief Keef, who also has been under public scrutiny since the September 2012 shooting death of aspiring rapper Joseph Coleman, 18, not far from his boyhood home in Englewood.
The slaying of Coleman – known as Lil Jojo – garnered national attention following reports that Chicago police were looking into whether a war of words in the hip-hop community between him and Chief Keef’s crew played a role in the slaying. Hours after Coleman’s death, a taunting tweet was sent on Chief Keef's account mocking Lil Jojo.
Law enforcement sources said Lil Durk is part of the same crew that had been at odds with Coleman, a feud that investigators have documented from YouTube videos and Twitter feeds.
The sources have also said the slaying might be tied to a conflict between the Brick Squad faction of the Gangster Disciples and the Lamron faction of the Black Disciples.
No one has been charged in Coleman's slaying.
In March, Chief Keef -- whose real name is Keith Cozart -- completed a 60-day stay in a juvenile prison for violating his probation on a gun conviction. Since then, he’s been arrested twice.
On May 20, he was arrested in the Atlanta area when police allegedly found him smoking marijuana in a hotel room. A week later, he was arrested on suspicion of speeding at 110 mph on the Edens Expressway in Chicago’s northern suburbs, police said.

Teen Boys Shot

A pair of gunmen on bicycles shot and wounded two boys, 14 and 16, as they stood outside in the South Shore neighborhood, police said.
Each of the boys was shot twice but their conditions were stabilized, one at Stroger Hospital and the other at Comer Children's Hospital.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Monday near the intersection of South Clyde Avenue and East 71st Street. The boys were standing outside when the shooters rode up on bicycles and opened fire, according to police.
As police worked the crime scene, neighbors and shopkeepers watched from the corner of 71st and Clyde in front of the Dollar Station store. Among them was a 21-year-old man with blood on both sneakers who said he ran to help after hearing a burst of gunfire.
The man, who asked that his name not be used, was inside a friend's home and immediately thought of his teenage brother when he heard the shots. "I thought my little brother got shot," he said.
He was relieved to see he was wrong but recognized the two victims as his brother's friends. One of the boys was sitting down and the other was leaning on others, he said.
The man said he tried to keep one of the victims conscious, talking with him and pleading with him to stay alert, as he urged others to apply pressure to the wounds.
Paramedics took the older boy to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to the calf and thigh. The younger teen was taken to Comer Children's Hospital with gunshot wounds to the calf and shoulder.
Also at the crime scene later was 52-year-old Kenneth Conner, who heard the gunfire while sitting in his truck. "That's crazy," he said as he looked toward the police officers standing on Clyde. "Two little kids."
His wife was visiting a hair salon, but Conner had wanted to stay nearby out of concern for her safety, he said.
Conner, a former construction worker who retired after an injury, said he grew up nearby at a time when gun violence was rare in the area. "This area has gotten worse in the last seven or eight years," he said.
Residents said shootings are now frequent in the neighborhood. On May 15, a 19-year-old man was injuredby gunfire a block east, in the 7000 block of South Merrill Avenue.
Police took two people of interest into custody after the South Shore shooting, but they were released shortly after.
In a separate South Side shooting Monday night, which police said was not related, someone shot an 18-year-old man in the Park Manor neighborhood.
The shooter approached on foot about 8 p.m. and opened fire in the 300 block of East 69th Street, striking the man in the back, police said.
A relative took the man to St. Bernard Hospital, and he was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

2 Shot in Englewood

Someone shot a man from inside a passing car in the Englewood neighborhood early Sunday morning, and another man was wounded in a shooting at the 68th Street and Pulaski bus stop a couple hours later.
Both men, in their early 20s, were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, police said.
The man shot on Pulaski, either 22 or 23, was hit at least four times by someone who shot from a car at the bus stop, police said. He was shot about 5:15 a.m. and taken to Christ hospital in critical condition.
Police said two people were in the car. The passenger stepped out and the driver fired the shots, police said. It's not clear what may have transpired between the three men before the shooting.
The wounded man ran south toward 68th Place and collapsed, police said. Police found at least four shell casings at the bus stop and seemed to focus on a broken beer bottle that spilled its contents on the sidewalk.
The other shooting happened about an hour earlier in the West Englewood neighborhood. A 21-year-old man was standing outside with a group of friends when someone opened fire from a passing car, police said.
The 21-year-old was hit in the leg and the wound left a trail of blood up porch stairs at a home in the 7000 block of South Wolcott Avenue. He is expected to survive, police said.

Man Shot in Harvey

A 22-year-old Markham man was pronounced dead this morning after being shot in south suburban Harvey, officials said.

Darius Shelton, of the 3300 block of Willow Lane in Markham, was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 7:56 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

At about 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Harvey police responded to a call of shots being fired at the intersection of 152nd and Paulina Streets in Harvey, said Harvey spokeswoman Sandra Alvarado.

When police arrived they found the victim shot. He was taken to the hospital where he later died, Alvarado said.

Investigators are interviewing eyewitnesses and following leads, Alvarado said.
